Bold truth: the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster shakeup at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially underway, and the changes are bigger than you might expect. Here’s what you need to know about the closing, the transformation, and what fans can anticipate next.
Closing date revealed
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close on March 2, 2026, with the final day of operation set for March 1, 2026. Disney previously offered only a broad timeline suggesting an “early Spring” closure, but the exact date has now been confirmed. The ride will be reborn as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, slated to debut in summer 2026.
What’s changing behind the scenes and in the pre-show
In a move that signals a complete tonal shift, the Aerosmith preshow has been boarded up in preparation for the Muppets transformation. When guests reach the ride’s loading area, they’ll proceed directly from the new pre-show setup, bypassing the old sequence entirely.
A peek at the new concept art and experience
Visuals for the Muppets version show a psychedelic makeover of the large guitar that anchors Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Courtyard. The guitar’s base features a piano motif, highlighted by a single gold key nod to Dr. Teeth’s famous tooth. The exterior artwork also includes a wall poster as part of the refreshed look.
Story and setting for the new ride
The revised storyline places guests on a VIP tour of G-Force Records. While Electric Mayhem performs across town, they’re momentarily delayed at the studio, which guests will glimpse as part of the new pre-show. In the control booth, a team of penguin audio engineers works alongside Scooter, while Miss Piggy and Kermit appear on screens to enhance the whimsy.
Backstory details
Scooter’s uncle, J.P. Grosse—a real estate magnate and owner of the Muppet Theatre—has acquired G-Force Records and appointed Scooter to run it. After the pre-show, riders embark on the adventure with a playful note of collaboration: Disney promises a rapid, adrenaline-filled road trip through Hollywood to reach the concert in time, aided by friends from Muppet Labs and a very fast limousine.
What you’ll see and hear
Expect familiar landmarks reimagined through a Muppet lens, with the Electric Mayhem performing iconic tunes along the way. Disney has teased a setlist that will be announced closer to the opening.
