Gavin Moth, a man living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has designed a captivating show garden at the RHS Badminton Flower Show in South Gloucestershire. This garden is not just a visual masterpiece but also a deeply personal project, reflecting Moth's own experiences with the chronic autoimmune disease. With the help of horticulturist Michael Leech, Moth has created a serene space that aims to provide a sense of peace and tranquility to visitors, offering a respite from the daily struggles of living with MS.
The garden's design is a powerful representation of Moth's journey with MS. Wooden archways, reminiscent of nerve structures, support climbing plants, symbolizing the resilience and strength needed to navigate the challenges of the disease. After his MS diagnosis in 2012, he returned to college to train as an RHS Horticulturalist, building a social media presence as 'The MS Gardener'. This project, completed two years after his diagnosis, has been a source of immense pride and happiness for Moth, who has found solace and purpose in gardening.
The garden's impact extends beyond the show. Once the RHS event concludes, it will be relocated to Brightwell in Bristol, a therapy center for people with chronic neurological conditions.
