Imagine this: You're driving down a Florida highway, and in a split second, you're faced with a heart-stopping scene. A man, John Brittingham, became an instant hero when he bravely rescued two toddlers wandering onto a busy road. This incredible act of courage was all caught on camera, and the footage is nothing short of amazing.
On a Sunday, Drone Geox LLC, a drone business based in Merritt Island, Florida, shared the dramatic video on Facebook. It shows Brittingham, who was driving along Route A1A, spotting the young girls in the middle of the road. A white car is approaching them, and without hesitation, Brittingham springs into action.
He's seen running towards the children, gesturing frantically to stop oncoming traffic. He scoops up the toddlers, one by one, and carries them to the safety of the sidewalk. It's a scene that will leave you breathless.
Brittingham, a father of five and a grandfather of one, shared with ABC News that he was driving southbound on A1A when he noticed the children. He immediately pulled over and jumped out to help. He described the moment: "I was terrified. If anything would've happened to them, my whole life would have been ruined."
After the rescue, Brittingham went to look for the children's family. They were staying in a nearby rental home, where the backyard gate had been left open. The family was unaware that the toddlers had even left the yard.
Thankfully, according to Brittingham, no one was hurt in the incident. But here's where it gets controversial... The Cocoa Beach Police Department stated they were not contacted about the event. ABC News has reached out to both the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol for further comments.
