Copying Part of a Message on Galaxy Phones: A New Feature in Google Messages
Google Messages, the default messaging app on Galaxy phones, is getting a new feature that will allow users to copy only a part of a message. Long-pressing a message in a conversation reveals a redesigned context menu that enlarges the text and allows users to select and copy only a specific portion of the message. Users can drag to highlight exactly the text they need. This feature is particularly useful when a single message contains multiple elements, such as plain text, a phone number, an email address, or a web link, and the user wants to copy just one piece of information.
The existing options, including copying the entire message, remain unchanged. The context menu still shows actions such as Copy, Delete, Forward, Info, Reply, Select More, and Star. The Copy command continues to duplicate the full message, while the new selection method enables more precise copying.
This improvement is a welcome addition to Google Messages, addressing a gap in its feature set compared to Samsung’s in-house Messages app. While the feature is not yet widely available, users may need to wait a few weeks for it to arrive in the stable release.
