The city's movements, spins, and turns are influenced by live data, with lighting shifts from night to dawn and day to dusk, creating an analog SimCity in real-time. This year's creation surpasses last year's retro machine, an interactive website with old-school dials and segment displays, by offering a more tangible experience. David Jacoviello, an interactive and visual designer, explains that the city represents Stripe's world, including its infrastructure, products, and partners. The creative team, led by Philipp Antoni, Devin Jacoviello, and Travis McCall, spent time on paper mockups to understand the physical scale, and a crew of skilled model makers handcrafted the set. The internal web team designed and molded the digital experience, taking viewers into this bustling city. The model marvel embraces our love for dioramas and childhood materials, moving away from soulless financial design and embracing the retro charm of handmade joy. Animators will be on set 24/7 during the lucrative weekend to make the experience truly alive.
